Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings took home a huge series win in the Midwest League playoff race over division rival Peoria Chiefs. The LumberKings rode another fantastic performance from Victor Sanchez on Monday night to a 7-1 win in the rubber match.

Clinton scored early and often off Peoria starter Ben O'Shea. With two aboard, Jordy Lara lifted a double over the head of centerfielder C.J. McElroy, Jr. Both Janelfry Zorrilla and Dario Pizzano scored to give Clinton a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

In the second, Clinton extended their lead with three more runs. Four consecutive singles off O'Shea started the frame for the LumberKings. Pizzano collected his team-high 59th RBI on a sacrifice fly, and D.J. Peterson brought home another on a fielder's choice.

Peoria scored their only run in the third on a wild pitch, and the LumberKings responded with a long ball from an unlikely source. In the bottom of the third, Gaby Guerrero drilled his first home run of the season, an opposite field solo blast.

The LumberKings added another in the eighth inning to cap off the 7-1 win. Victor Sanchez shut down the Chiefs' lineup for three hits over his seven innings. Oliver Garcia finished off the win with two scoreless innings in relief.

Sanchez improved to 5-5 on the year, having now won his past three starts. Ben O'Shea suffered his second defeat of the season.

With the win, Clinton tightened the gap in the wild card race in the Western Division. Peoria now leads the LumberKings by one game for the final playoff berth.

Clinton has an off day before continuing the homestand with a three-game set with the Quad Cities River Bandits. The LumberKings turn to right-hander Rigoberto Garcia (0-4, 6.46) to the mound against River Bandits left-hander Josh Hader (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT on Wednesday.
