Clinton kept the pressure on in the second inning. Tim Lopes reached on a bobbled grounder that was ruled a hit and stole second to start the frame. Martin Peguero singled off O'Shea's foot to put runners on the corners and Lopes scored on a single by Jamodrick McGruder. Pizzano made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to right and Peterson put Clinton up 5-0 when he beat a potential double play ball to first base for a run-scoring fielders' choice.

Both runners moved up on a groundout and Herrera scored on a wild pitch. Clinton answered that run as Gaby Guerrero led off the third with a solo homerun just inside the fair pole, his first homer in 391 at-bats this season.

After the Chiefs loaded the bases with one out but failed to score in the top of the eighth, Clinton put the game away in the bottom of the inning. Lopes led off with a triple to right-center off Joe Donofrio. Peguero's infield single toward first base plated Lopes for the 7-1 Clinton lead.
