Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Eastlake, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (67-52, 29-22) took a no hitter into the eighth inning for the second time in four days but fell in walk-off fashion to the Lake County Captains (48-69, 25-25) 3-2 on Monday night at Classic Park in northeastern Ohio. Jeremy Lucas' two-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning secured the Captains sweep over the Hot Rods, who have lost 12 of their last 20.

Brandt was dominant in his first Hot Rods action on Monday, retiring the first 13 Captain batters he faced. The lefty finished with six hitless innings and turned another solid start over to the Hot Rods bullpen. Andrew Hanse spun two scoreless frames, allowing a single to Eric Haase with one out in the eighth to break up the no-hitter. The Hot Rods also took a no-hitter 7.1 innings on Friday in Bowling Green.

The two Hot Rods runs came in on RBI singles from Tommy Coyle and Justin O'Conner. However, having just one hit in the first eight innings, the Captains used two singles and two doubles to stun Marcus Jensen, who blew his second save of the season, and the Hot Rods in the ninth.

Dorssys Paulino got the Captains on the board with an RBI infield single before Lucas floated his one-out double down the line in right field to give the Captains the walk-off win. The crushing defeat improves Lake County to 13-1 all-time over Bowling Green in regular and postseason action after August 1.

The Hot Rods lose for the 21st time in the second half of the season. Thirteen of those 21 losses have seen the Hot Rods lose a lead or fall behind from a tie in the seventh inning or later, including Monday night.

Bowling Green continues their ten-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series in Fort Wayne at Parkview Field on Wednesday night at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will give the start to RHP Reinaldo Lopez (7-4, 2.23) opposite the TinCaps RHP Matthew Shepherd (4-4, 3.87). Join Hank Fuerst and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz on the call on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com). The Forever Communications Pregame Show begins at 5:35 PM CDT.
