Burlington Bees News Release

Chevy Clarke smacked a bases-clearing triple in the sixth to help the Burlington Bees knock off the Beloit Snappers 3-1 on Monday at Community Field.

Burlington loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, and things were looking bleak when Matt Scioscia fouled out and Garrett Cannizaro struck out; however, Clarke stepped to the plate and belted a 3-2 pitch off the top of the right field wall, clearing the bases and putting the Bees (46-69, 20-30) ahead 3-1.

Deyvi Jimenez (2-4) was one pitch away from taking a 1-0 lead into the seventh, but he made a huge mistake against Clarke. Exicardo Cayones got the sixth inning off to a good start, reaching on an infield single after lining the ball right back to the pitcher. Cayones stole second and stayed there when Julio Concepcion was walked. Zach Wright attemped to sacrifice the two men over, but when Renato Nunez picked up his bunt try, no one was covering first, allowing Wright to reach on a bunt single.

The Snappers (67-53, 24-26) took the lead in the top of the sixth, picking up one run on a wild pitch. Chris O'Grady tossed five scoreless innings in his first professional start, before he ran into trouble in the sixth. O'Grady got the first out of the inning, but then allowed Nunez to reach on an infield single. Nunez advanced to second on a wild pitch and then when Chris Bostick walked, the ball got passed Wright, allowing Nunez to go to third and Bostick to move to second on the wild pitch. Austin Adams (1-1) came out of the bullpen and walked John Wooten to load the bases. Matt Olson struck out swinging, but a wild pitch on the strikeout, allowed Nunez to score the game's first run. Sam Roberts grounded out for the final out of the inning.

O'Grady worked out of early trouble, loading the bases in the first on three consecutive singles. Wooten grounded into a double play, allowing O'Grady to get out of the first unharmed. In his first professional start, O'Grady twirled 5 1/3 innings, surrendering one run on seven hits.

Adams, Joey Krehbiel and Cam Bedrosian (S, 7) combined to fire 3 2/3 of scoreless baseball to help the Bees hold on for the 3-1 victory.

Burlington will now receive its final day off of the season before beginning a stretch of 20 games in 20 days. The Bees will welcome in Kane County for a three-game series, which begins on Wednesday night. Pat Lowery will meet Starling Peralta at 6:30 p.m.
