Louisville Ends Losing Streak with Three Home Runs against Toledo

Toledo, OH - The Louisville Bats (2-11) racked up three homers and six RBI for a 7-3 win against the Toledo Mud Hens (9-4) on a rainy afternoon at Fifth Third Field, snapping a nine game losing streak.

After a scoreless first inning, designated hitter Matt McLain led off the top of the second with a bang and recorded his third homer of the season to give the Bats an early lead of 1-0.

The Mud Hens answered in the bottom of the inning with a lead-off double, later drove in by a single to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Catcher Chuckie Robinson threw out a runner trying to steal second base and right-handed pitcher Chase Anderson struck out the final batter to get out of the inning.

Louisville quickly retook the lead in the top of the third. Robinson drew a lead-off walk and infielders Steven Leyton and Alejo Lopez followed up with back-to-back base hits. Lopez's single brought in Robinson to give Louisville a 2-1 lead, Lopez's fourth RBI of the year.

Doubles from Robinson and Leyton in the top of the fifth helped strengthen the Bats' lead, 3-1. Leyton, whose double drove in Robinson, recorded his first RBI of 2023.

After a base hit by Hopkins in the top of the seventh, Robinson continued to stay hot at the plate and homered to center field to extend Louisville's lead 5-1.

Toledo scored at the bottom of the inning, bringing the game to 5-2.

Leftie Alex McGarry clocked the Bats' third homerun of the game to in the the ninth. Robinson recorded his third hit of the game following the McGarry home run then stole second. Thanks to a pair of wild pitches, Robinson advanced to third and eventually scored to give Louisville a comfortable lead of 7-2.

Although the Mud Hens scored one in the bottom of the ninth, the Bats held on for the road victory and Anderson earned his first win of the year after going five innings, striking out four and allowing one run.

The Bats will play their last game of the series against Toledo Sunday, April 16th with the first pitch set for 2:05 p.m. E.T. Ben Lively (1-0, 3.60) is expected to start with the Bats lineup expecting to face Toledo's lefthander Zach Logue (1-0, 3.86).
