Loons Post Season-High 11 Runs in Victory

May 17, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release

Preston Mattingly and Alfredo Silverio both homered and Steven Johnson extended his scoreless streak to 20 innings as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons in game one of a day/night doubleheader in front of 8,127 fans at Fifth Third Field by a score of 11-3.

The 11 runs scored by the Loons marks the most runs the team has scored in a ballgame during the 2008 season. They also recorded season-highs in hits (15) and runs in an inning (six, in the seventh).

Both Mattingly and Silverio came within a triple of hitting for the cycle in the ballgame, with Mattingly finishing the game with four hits.

With the Loons leading 1-0 in the fourth, Mattingly homered to right-center off Dayton starter Josh Ravin to give the Loons a 2-0 lead.

With the score the same in the fifth, Silverio went the opposite way as well launching his second home run in as many games, a two-run shot and second of the year to give the Loons a 4-0 lead.

Justin Fuller also had three hits in the ballgame, including two doubles.

Steven Johnson (5-1) continued to stymie Midwest League hitters in his start, pitching seven shutout innings in picking up his fifth win of the season. He has not allowed a run in May and has a streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings. In making his Midwest League debut, Ravin (0-1) suffered his first loss after pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs.

The Loons improve to 19-21 and 7-2 this season against Dayton. The Dragons fall to 21-18.

The Loons will take on the Dragons in game two of the double header from Fifth Third Field tonight. Game time is 7:00pm. Left-hander Victor Garate is scheduled to start for Great Lakes. The game will be carried on the flagship home for Great Lakes Loons baseball, ESPN 100.9-FM.

The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
