Great Lakes Loons News Release

A collective effort by the offense and a masterful job by a makeshift pitching staff was the difference as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Dayton Dragons in game two of a day/night doubleheader in front of 8,804 fans at Fifth-Third Field by a score of 7-0.

With Saturday's victories, the Loons find themselves only 1.5 games out of first place in a very close Eastern division. The division's top spot is currently being held by West Michigan and the Dragons.

Combining both games of today's double header, the Loons outscored Dayton 18-3. The Loons have won eight of 10 games against the Midwest League's eastern division first-place Dragons.

Justin Fuller and Pedro Baez led the Loons with two hits a piece in the ballgame.

Victor Garate (2-0) pitched five scoreless innings striking out six in picking up his second win of the season. Dayton starter Curtis Partch got roughed up and gave up six runs in over five innings of work to pick up the loss dropping his record to 2-5.

The Loons improve to 20-21 while the Dragons fall to 21-19.

The Loons and Dragons will tangle once more in the finale' of a four-game series from Fifth-Third Field Sunday afternoon. Game time is 2:00pm. Daigoro Rondon is scheduled to start for the Loons.
