West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK - All five runs scored by Lansing were unearned thanks to three errors committed by the Whitecaps in a 5-3 loss to the Lugnuts.
Despite the loss, the âCaps are tied for first in the Midwest League Eastern Division with Dayton and are just a half game in front of Lansing.
Lauren Gagnier pitched seven innings as the West Michigan starter and allowed one unearned run on just four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. He left the game with a 3-1 lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, a throwing error by Whitecaps first baseman Chris Carlson opened the door for two runs to score on a two-out single by John Tolisano, which tied the game, 3-3.
Lansing took the lead in the ninth when a pair of runs scored after Rudy Darrow threw a ball past first base for the âCaps third error of the night. Darin Mastroianni crossed the plate for Lansing on a wild pitch by Darrow and Noah Krol allowed an RBI sacrifice fly by Kevin Ahrens, which provided the final margin of victory.
Darrow pitched two-thirds of an inning and took the loss. Wilton Garcia also tossed two-thirds of an inning and gave up the two runs that scored in the eighth.
West Michigan took a 2-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Joe Tucker in the first inning, followed by balk by pitcher Luis Perez that drove in Casper Wells in the second.
In the fourth inning, Lansing cut the lead in half on an RBI double by Manny Rodriguez. Ahrens, who scored on the play, reached base on an error by second baseman Justin Henry.
Adrian Casanova delivered an RBI single to drive in Ronnie Bourquin in the seventh inning, when the âCaps pushed the lead to 3-1.
Alan Farina tossed three innings of relief for Lansing and allowed one run on three hits to earn the victory. Cody Crowell pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season.
