Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees evened up a three-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits with a 3-1 win Saturday night at Community Field. Alex Caldera allowed just one run as he picked up his third win of the season.
The game did not start well for the Bees. River Bandits leadoff hitter Tommy Pham led the ballgame off with a solo homerun down the right field line to give Quad Cities a 1-0 lead. After that, Caldera settled down as he pitched six innings allowing just the one run on six hits with eight strikeouts and only two walks.
The Bees got on the scoreboard and took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Shawn Hayes walked and then moved to third on a Jamar Walton single. Alwin Perez then hit a single that scored Hayes to tie the game. Ryan Eigsti hit an infield single that produced a throwing error by Quad Cities third basemen Domnit Bolivar, which allowed Walton to score a run to give the Bees a lead.
The Bees added an insurance run in the third inning. David Lough and Mike Moustakas led the inning off with singles. Jason Taylor walked to load the bases before Hayes walked, which produced a run and ended the day for Quad Cities starting pitcher Blake King. Justin Fiske came in with the bases loaded and no outs and got out of the jam without allowing anymore runs.
With the win, Alex Caldera moved to 3-2 on the season, which ties him for the team lead in wins. Chris Chavez pitched three innings allowing just one hit en route to his first save of the season.
The Bees pounded out ten hits on the night. Eigsti went 3-3 while Lough had two hits.
The final game of the series between the Bees and Quad Cities is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Community Field for Community Basket day. Sam Runion will make his debut for the Bees as he is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
