Dragons Lose 7-0 in Second Game of Doubleheader

Dayton, Ohio-Victor Garate and two relievers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Great Lakes Loons completed a doubleheader sweep of the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night with a 7-0 victory. The Loons won the first game on Saturday 11-3. The Dragons have lost five straight games. However, they remain tied for first place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division with a record of 21-19.

Great Lakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, keyed by a run-scoring single by Pedro Baez and a two-run double by Alex Garabedian against Dragons starting pitcher Curtis Partch (2-5). The Loons added two more in the third to jump ahead 5-0. They scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to close out the scoring.

Garate (2-0) worked the first five innings, allowing four hits with no walks and six strikeouts to earn the win. Jon Dutton tossed three scoreless innings and Given Kutz pitched the ninth for Great Lakes.

Partch worked five and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) with one walk and two strikeouts while suffering the loss.

Kevyn Feiner went 2 for 4 as the only Dragons player with multiple hits in the game.

The Dragons host Great Lakes in the series finale on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Enerio Del Rosario (2-1, 1.13) will start for Dayton. Bryan Morris (0-3, 4.17) starts for Great Lakes.
