Snappers Win in Dramatic Fashion

A walk-off single from Beloit's Chris Parmelee capped a dramatic comeback and a 9-8 Snappers victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night. The Snappers scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Chiefs for the second consecutive night.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Snappers scored one run in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. The big blow came off a Greg Yersich RBI-double to left field in the fourth.

The Chiefs then came back to regain the lead with two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth. Peoria took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when the game would once again be tied up.

Garrett Olson delivered a two-run single through the hole at short, tying the game up at 5-5. Olson's single scored Mark Dolenc and Ben Revere.

Steve Singleton put the Snaps ahead with an RBI-single to left in the bottom of the eighth inning. Singleton's single scored Joe Benson, who earlier doubled, from second base. Joe's run put the Snappers ahead 6-5 heading to the ninth inning.

The Chicago Cubs class A affiliate stormed back in the top of the ninth and plated three runs. The Chiefs got their three runs off of Beloit relievers Spencer Steedley and Blair Erickson. The outburst of runs put Peoria in front 8-6 heading towards the home half of the ninth inning.

Ramon Santana led off with a single through the hole at second base. After Mark Dolenc reached on a force attempt, Ben Revere loaded the bases with a bunt single down the third base line.

Chris Cates then proceeded to ground into a double play that allowed Ramon Santana to score from third, but left Beloit with only one out to work with. Garrett Olson then stepped to the plate and hit a game-tying RBI-double to right-center field scoring Mark Dolenc.

Chris Parmelee followed Olson with a game-winning, RBI-single to center field, scoring Olson from second and sending the Pohlman Field faithful into a frenzy.

Every player in the Snappers lineup had at least one hit with Ben Revere and Garrett Olson each having three. Beloit tied their season-high in hits with 18.

Blair Erickson picked up the win for Beloit who improved to 21-20 on the season. Peoria fell to 14-28.
