Long Island Nets to Honor Towns of Islip, Oyster Bay and Hempstead at Select Home Games in January

LONG ISLAND (Jan. 15, 2020) - The Long Island Nets will host three Town Night Games this month, where they will honor the Long Island towns of Islip, Oyster Bay and Hempstead. The games will be played at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and will celebrate the three communities with special on-court recognitions for outstanding members of each town.

WHAT:

Islip Town Night will celebrate local heroes from the Islip community

WHO:

Carol Squatrito will be presented with the Veteran of the Game award. Originally from the town of Islip, Squatrito served overseas during her entire tour of duty from 1981-1987. Carol's service awards include Honor Recruitment Recipient in Boot Camp, Top Female Student in "A" School, Ms. Sailor of the Quarter and the Good Conduct Medal.

QuackerJack and the QJ Foundation will be presented with Community Heroes of the Game award, courtesy of Healthfirst. The QuackerJack Foundation is the charitable arm of the Long Island Ducks and has made over 900 charitable donations to organizations across Long Island since it was established in 2003. Quackerjack is a fixture in the community through its visits to local hospitals, schools, organizations and various events throughout Long Island.

WHO:

Dr. Edward Salina, Superintendent of Plainedge Schools, will be presented with the Community Hero of the Game award, courtesy of PinkTie.org. Dr. Salina has made a huge impact within the Plainedge School District and Town of Oyster Bay community.

Hempstead Town Night will celebrate local heroes from the Hempstead community

WHO:

Legislator Laura Schaefer will sing the National Anthem prior to tipoff. As an attorney in the County of Nassau, Schaefer not only advocates for clients she represents, but she also represents over 71,000 constituents. She has assumed several committee leadership roles in the areas of capital planning and budgeting, intergovernmental relations, governmental operations, public health and social services. As a result, Schaefer has gained extensive experience in funding for community revitalization projects and approved the appointment of qualified and experienced individuals to serve on various management and oversight boards in Nassau County.
