Long Island Nets Fall to Erie in Hard-Fought Battle

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (16-21), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, fell to the Erie Bayhawks (11-27) 125-124 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Long Island guard/forward Justin Anderson continued his strong play for the Nets, finishing the contest with 33 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range in 40 minutes of action. Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Dzanan Musa, while on assignment with Long Island, finished the contest with 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in 35 minutes of play.

The Bayhawks were led by two-way guard Josh Gray, who finished the contest with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range while adding four rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block in 29 minutes of play. Pelicans guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, while on assignment with Erie, finished with 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action.

The two teams got off to a back-and-forth start to open the game, with Erie taking a narrow 10-9 lead over the first four minutes of play. The tight play continued over the remainder of the quarter with Erie maintaining the lead, heading into the second up 34-28.

The Bayhawks came out with energy to open the second, outscoring the Nets 12-7 over the opening 4:23 of play to take a 44-35 lead. Following a Nets timeout, Long Island responded with an 18-6 run of their own, taking a 53-50 with 4:46 left to play in the half. Long Island would go on to outscore the Bayhawks 39-26 in the quarter, taking a 67-58 lead to close out the half.

Erie looked to respond in the second half, outscoring the Nets 18-9 over the opening 5:40 of the third. The Bayhawks would go on to outscore Long Island 33-20 in the third, taking a 91-87 lead into the final quarter of play.

Long Island battled to regain the lead, getting to within two points with 1:46 remaining in the fourth. Erie, however, was able to maintain its lead, closing out the game with a narrow 125-124 victory.

The Nets play their next game against the Raptors 905 on Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Bayhawks will travel to Maine to take on the Red Claws next on Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. ET.
