Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Former Fort Wayne RHP Jon Link and INF Lance Zawadzki have made their MLB debuts with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, respectively, becoming the 88th and 89th alums to climb all the way to the Major Leagues.

Link, 26, was a workhorse in the Fort Wayne bullpen in 2006, appearing in 53 games and going 5-5 with three saves and a 4.91 ERA. The next season, he was shipped to the White Sox in a trade for INF Rob Mackowiak. After two-plus seasons in the Chicago organization, Link was dealt to the Dodgers over the off-season to complete the trade of OF Juan Pierre to Los Angeles.

Link's debut means eleven players from the 2006 squad (plus manager Randy Ready, now the San Diego Padres' hitting coach) have appeared in the Major Leagues.

Zawadzki, who hit .273 and stole 28 bases for Fort Wayne in 2008, split last season between Advanced-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio. He played in the prestigious Arizona Fall League over the off-season, hit .324 and made the Rising Stars showcase game.

Zawadzki received the call to the major leagues after San Diego SS Everth Cabrera went down with an injury. He is the third member of the 2008 team to make it to the major leagues, following RHP Mat Latos and OF Luis Durango.

Tickets, group outings and picnics for the TinCaps' 2010 season are on sale now. Visit TinCaps.com or call (260) 482-6400 for more information.
