Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio - Shane Carlson collected three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a come-from-behind 10-5 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods before a crowd of 8,494 at Fifth Third Field on Monday. The win gave the Dragons a sweep of the three-game series and improved their record to 13-11. Bowling Green fell to 5-19 with the loss.

Henry Rodriguez went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs and Kevin Coddington added three hits and an RBI for the Dragons, who collected a season-high 16 hits in the win. The Dragons battled back from a 5-1 deficit to score nine unanswered runs on the way to the victory.

Bowling Green got on the board first in the second inning on an RBI single by Dustin Biell to jump ahead 1-0. It was the first lead for Bowling Green in the series.

The Dragons came back to tie the game in the third on a pair of singles by Carlson and Rodriguez sandwiched around a walk to Jordan Wideman to load the bases with no one out. Coddington grounded into a double play as Carlson scored to tie the game.

The Hot Rods scored four runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of an unusual play that kept the frame alive when it appeared to be over. Ty Morrison delivered a two-out single that brought in a run to give Bowling Green a 2-1 lead. The next batter, Tyler Bortnick, appeared to ground into an inning-ending force out, but catcher's interference was called on the play and the inning continued. The next batter, Brett Nommensen hit the first pitch from Justin Walker into the right field seats for a three-run home run to make it 5-1.

But the Dragons started back in the bottom of the fifth. A run-scoring single in the inning by Rodriguez and an RBI ground out by Andrew Means brought the Dragons back to within two at 5-3.

In the sixth, Dayton scored four more runs to take the lead. Rodriguez drilled a two-run double to center field to give Dayton a 6-5 lead, and Rodriguez scored on Coddington's RBI single to make it 7-5.

The Dragons added three more runs in the seventh, keyed by a pair of RBI singles by Efrain Contreras and Carlson, to jump ahead 10-5.

Walker (1-2) earned his first win of the season. He worked the first six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs (four earned) with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Dragons travel to Lake County to battle the Captains (17-8) in the start to a three-game series on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Jacob Johnson (0-2, 6.38) will start for Dayton against Lake County's Trey Haley (1-0, 4.68).
