Burlington Bees News Release
Davenport, IA (May 3, 2010) - If the Burlington Bees felt the pressure of a potential viewing audience of 55 million, they did not show it on Monday afternoon, stifling the Quad Cities River Bandits offense en route to a 4-1 win.
Bryan Paukovits (W, 2-1) turned in a fourth consecutive quality outing, holding the River Bandits to a run on two hits with five strikeouts in six innings in a contest broadcast live on MLB Network. Tandem starter Nick Wooley walked five in two and two-thirds scoreless innings before being relieved by Brendan Lafferty (S, 1) with two outs in the ninth. Lafferty induced a bases-loaded flyout by QC left field D'Marcus Ingram to give the Bees their third straight victory over the team who entered the series in first place in the Western Division.
The Bees won the race to the scoreboard in the top of the third when Gerard Hall walked, advanced to second on a Hilton Richardson groundout, and came home as Deivy Batista lined a soft single to center.
After the Bandits tied the game on Niko Vasquez's solo home run in the fourth, the Burlington offense threatened again in the fifth. Wil Myers stepped in with runners on second and third and slashed a double to the left-center field gap to give the Bees a 3-1 lead. Carlo Testa added a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for the final tally.
Myers and Rene Oriental led the offense with two hits apiece. The Bandits managed only three hits as a team.
The Bees open a three-game series on Tuesday night at Community Field. The Kane County Cougars come to town for Hawk Eye Two-for-Tuesday, where you can pick up a pair of general admission tickets for the price of one by clipping the coupon out of Tuesday's edition of The Hawk Eye.
