Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Everett Williams homered and drove in four runs, helping the Fort Wayne TinCaps (13-11) down the Lansing Lugnuts (14-11), 9-4, on Monday evening at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The TinCaps took three of the four games in the series from the host Lugnuts.
Williams, who entered the game with only six RBIs in 14 games, cracked a two-run double in the third inning and belted a two-run homer in the fifth to help Fort Wayne build a 5-2 lead.
The Lugnuts cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth inning, only to see the TinCaps put the game away in the seventh. After Lansing reliever Scott Gracey intentionally walked Williams to load the bases, Edinson Rincon lined a two-run single and Griffin Benedict followed with a two-run double to close out the scoring.
Lansing starter Ryan Tepera (2-1) allowed seven runs, six earned, in six-plus innings to suffer the loss.
Pedro Hernandez (1-1) notched the victory with three scoreless innings of relief for Fort Wayne.
The Lugnuts' Brad Glenn drew a walk to extend his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games, but was lifted in the fourth inning after suffering an apparent injury while getting tagged out at second base.
With the TinCaps leaving town, the Lugnuts continue their seven-game homestand with a three-game series with South Bend.
The opener coincides with a Dollar Dog Tuesday at Cooley Law School Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The starting pitching matchup will see Lansing right-hander Ryan Shopshire (2-1, 4.82) duel with South Bend left-hander Mike Belfiore (1-2, 3.63).
Lugnuts tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
