Homestand Notes
Team Returns Home: The Cougars return home this Friday evening to open a brief three-game homestand against the Peoria Chiefs, an affiliate of the Cubs. The team is currently getting a tour of Eastern Iowa, as the recent road trip has sent the Cougars to Cedar Rapids and Burlington.
Entering play on Monday, several Cougars rank among Midwest League leaders, including pitcher Chris Mederos (10th in ERA, 1.88), outfielder Kent Walton (1st in doubles, 12) and infielder Conner Crumbliss (2nd in OBP, .462). All games during the upcoming home series will be broadcast on WBIG 1280 AM and tickets are available for each game by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811 or visiting www.kccougars.com.
Ozzie's Reading Club: Ozzie's Reading Club kicks off its 16th season as 443 Chicago area schools and nearly 150,000 students are participating in the reading incentive program. Students read their way through goals set by teachers, and are rewarded with a free ticket to a Cougars game, along with a pre-game parade to recognize their reading achievement. The Cougars would like to thank Provena Mercy Medical Center, Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort and College Illinois for their support of Ozzie's Reading Club in 2010.
Remember Them? Several former Cougars have had success outside of the A's organization this year. Craig Italiano, who pitched for the Cougars in 2006-08 and was part of a tandem no-hitter in 2008, opened this season in strong fashion as closer for the San Antonio Missions, the Padres' Double-A affiliate. Entering play on Monday, Italiano has pitched in 11 games, with 5 saves and no earned runs allowed in 12 innings. Ben Jukich, an '06 Cougar, has made one start for the Louisville Bats, the Reds' Triple-A team, pitching five innings on April 27.
