D-Backs Recall Valdez From Triple-A Reno

(PHOENIX) - The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have recalled right-handed pitcher Cesar Valdez from Triple-A Reno and optioned right-handed pitcher Kevin Mulvey to Reno, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Byrnes.

Valdez, 25, will make his Major League debut when he starts tonight against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. In 4 starts at Reno this season, he went 1-1 with a 3.80 ERA (10 ER in 23.2 IP) and a .261 opponents average with 5 walks and 25 strikeouts. In 111 games (90 starts) over parts of six seasons in the D-backs' farm system, he went 38-34 with a 3.49 ERA and a .249 opponents average with 129 walks and 457 strikeouts.

Mulvey, 24, pitched in 2 games for the D-backs and posted a 6.00 ERA (2 ER in 3.0 IP) after being recalled from Reno on Wednesday. In 4 starts for the Aces, he is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA (10 R-9 ER in 20.0 IP) and a .247 opponents average with 5 walks and 14 strikeouts.
