South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - South Bend Silver Hawks third baseman Bobby Borchering has been named the Midwest League Hitter of the Week as announced today by Minor League Baseball.

The award covers the period from Monday, April 26th through Sunday, May 2nd. Borchering went 9-for-21 during the past seven days, posting a .429 batting average. The switch-hitter also homered three times in the last week, twice as a right-handed hitter and once from the left side.

Borchering doubled once and drove in five runs over the last six games, including knocking in the tying run in Sunday's dramatic 6-5 victory.

The award is the first for the Silver Hawks in 2010, and the team's first since 2008 after being shut out last season for weekly awards.

Beloit's Daniel Osterbrock won the Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row, courtesy of a seven-inning no hitter in the last seven days. Beloit's Lian Hendriks won the Pitcher of the Week in week one.

Borchering's win snapped the two week streak for Great Lakes' Jerry Sands as Hitter of the Week.

The Silver Hawks are on the road Tuesday through Thursday at Lansing, returning to Coveleski Stadium on Friday for a weekend series against the Dayton Dragons. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.silverhawks.com or call (574) 235-9988.
