May 3, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits fell in the final three games of their home series with the Burlington Bees, dropping the finale in front of 5,390 at Modern Woodmen Park, 4-1.
Hits were at a premium for the Bandits who finished the day with just three. Niko Vasquez provided all of the scoring for Quad Cities when he hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth which tied the game at one. The Bees went up for good with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Both scored on a two-run double by Wil Myers.
The Bandit had only two other hits in the game besides Vazquez's homer. D'Marcus Ingram tripled and Devin Shepherd added a ninth inning single.
Joe Kelly (2-2) made his third start of the season, surrendering three runs in five innings on the mound. Kelly walked just one and struck out six in his second loss of the season. Kelly's tandem piggyback partner, Dan Calhoun threw the final four innings for the Bandits, allowing one unearned run. Calhoun fanned three and walked two. Bryan Paukovitz (2-1) picked up his second win of the season in the six inning effort. Paukovitz allowed just one run on two hits while punching out five. Brendan Lafferty (1) recorded his first save of the season by getting the final out of the game with the bases loaded.
The River Bandits hit the road Tuesday, for a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Deryk Hooker is set to start for the third time against fellow right hander Eric Arnett, making his fifth start. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin.
