Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 9-3 on Wednesday night at PNC Field.
The Iron Pigs took control with a five-run outburst in the top of the third inning against Josh Maciejewski. A two-run double from Rafael Marchan and a three-run homer for Matt Vierling did the damage in the frame.
Lehigh Valley tacked on three more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer from Jorge Bonifacio to extend its lead to 8-0. All those runs were charged to Maciejewski (0-2), who allowed the tallies on eight hits in 4.0 innings of work.
Nick Green settled things down, allowing a single run in 3.0 frames of relief work, and the RailRiders finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Armando Alvarez led off the frame with a towering home run to left-center off reliever Jeff Singer to cut the deficit to 9-1.
Adam Warren finished the game on the hill for the RailRiders with two scoreless innings of relief. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre edged closer in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run from Max Burt off Julian Garcia to narrow the gap to 9-3, but couldn't come any closer. It was the first Triple-A home run for Burt in his second game played.
