Leahy Makes MLB Debut with Cardinals

Waterloo, IA - Former Waterloo Bucks right-handed pitcher Kyle Leahy was called up to the majors by the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday and made his major league debut Friday evening against the Chicago White Sox. Leahy joins Texas Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning, Miami Marlins pitcher A.J. Puk, and Detroit Tigers infielder Zach McKinstry as active major leaguers. Leahy becomes the 23rd former Buck to play Major League Baseball.

Leahy was drafted in the 17th round by St. Louis (513th overall) in 2018. A Colorado Mesa University product, Leahy played two seasons with Waterloo, in 2016 and 2017. During his Bucks career, Leahy compiled a 5-1 record with a 2.19 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

Prior to his call-up by the Cardinals, Leahy was playing Triple-A ball with the Memphis Redbirds in the International League. For Memphis, Leahy owned a 3-3 record with a 4.06 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched this season.
