Madison Mallards News Release
Wausau, WI - An early back-and-forth contest turned to a blowout late with Madison winning game one of their divisional series with Wausau, 13-3.
The Mallards earned the early lead against Logan Danziesen in the 1st inning on an RBI single by Isaiah Jackson. Isaiah Jackson, Owen Jackson, and Ryan Sprock all began the night tied for the team's lead with 28 runs driven in. Wausau took their only lead in the bottom half off Will Simmons, who earned his second winning decision of the summer. The Woodchucks took a 2-1 lead after the end of the 1st.
To begin the 2nd, Jackson Tucker walked, stole both second and third base, and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher making his way around the base paths to tie the game at 2-2. Madison would add two more in the top of the 3rd after loading the bases. Wausau cut into the lead against Simmons in his final inning of work in the 5th. However, Simmons would strand three Woodchucks' runners to complete his day.
Madison's bullpen was strong following Simmons. Andrew Guardino made his debut on Saturday night and sat down all six batters he threw against. Cam Clines and Jax Traeger contributed shutout innings in a scoreless bullpen outing.
Donnie Scott's offense, a night after scoring 14 against Kenosha, scored nine unanswered runs to finish the game. Tucker homered for a second straight night in the 6th inning and then Madison pushed one run a piece across the plate in the 7th and 8th. Leading 7-3 heading to the 9th, the Mallards offense exploded in the final half-inning. The North Siders smacked the ball around the yard against Isaiah Piscitello and Brock Turkington including five hits, one double and Ryan Sprock's team-leading seventh home run of the summer.
The Mallards improve to 4-1 in the second half and take a two-game lead over the rest of the Great Lakes West. They prepare for game two of the series with Wausau tomorrow from Warner Park at 4:05 P.M. CST.
