Wisconsin Rapids, WI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win game one of the series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, 5-2. The Pit Spitters improve their overall record to 26-14, and their second half record to 4-1. The Rafters drop to 21-18 overall record and 1-4 in the second half.
Evan Orzech got the offense started with a bang in the top of the second inning, as he went deep for his first home run of the year giving the Pit Spitters a 1-0 lead. Tyler Minnick showed off his power, going deep for the first time of the year extending the Pit Spitters lead to 2-0. Cooper Erikson followed up the long ball barrage, with a single, then Andrew Mannelly doubled to left field. Bryce Parrish threw a wild pitch, allowing Erikson to come across to make it a 3-0 game. Glenn Miller reached base on a fielding error made by Garrett Broussard, allowing Mannelly to come in and score to give the Pit Spitters a 4-0 lead. Colin Summerhill drew a walk to get things going in the top of the fifth. Orzech grounded out to first pushing Summerhill to second. Camden Traficante hit a groundball to second baseman Chris Conniff, causing him to make an error, allowing Summerhill to come across and give the Pit Spitters a 5-0 lead. Jorge De Goti put a spark into the Rafters offense by hitting a leadoff single. After back-to-back groundouts advancing De Goti to third, Ty Johnson singled to right field pushing across De Goti to cut into the Pit Spitters lead 5-1. Logan Hugo drew a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the eighth inning. Hugo then stole second, and further advanced to third on a groundout hit by Jack Gurevitch. Hugo came in and scored on a wild pitch thrown by Noah Samol to make it 5-2.
The Pit Spitters improve to 26-14 on the season and 4-1 in the second half, while the Rafters drop to a 21-18 overall record and 1-4 in the second half. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Aren Gustafson threw seven innings, giving up one run on four hits, walking a pair, earning the win. Noah Samol came in and threw an inning of relief, giving up one run on no hits. Mitch White came in to close the game and threw a scoreless inning, earning the save.
