Norfolk Admirals News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Pierre-Cedric Labrie's goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation capped off an Admirals comeback, as the Norfolk Admirals (34-18-1-2) defeated the Binghamton Senators (21-30-2-1), 3-2, on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The victory, Norfolk's seventh straight, moves the Admirals back into first-place in the East Division.
The Admirals have won seven straight games for the first time since 2006. Norfolk is one win away from equaling the franchise record of eight consecutive victories, which was set during the 2001-02 season.
Brandon Segal notched his first goal in an Admirals uniform since 2008 while Evan Oberg scored his fifth goal of the season in the third period as the Admirals came-from-behind for the eighth time this season. Dustin Tokarski turned aside 33 shots in the victory.
The Senators jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening period of play.
Mike Hoffman opened the scoring less than two minutes after the opening faceoff. Hoffman sent a shot from atop the right faceoff circle over the blocker of Tokarski to give the Senators the 1-0 lead at 1:34 of the first period.
Just over five minutes later, the Senators took advantage of a two-man advantage. Former Admiral, Rob Klinkhammer, knocked down a shot by Andre Petersson and from in front in front of the net, tucked the loose puck under the left pad of Tokarski to give the home team a 2-0 lead at 6:42.
However, that would be all the scoring for the Senators in the contest as Admirals comeback began less than a minute into the second period.
In his first game since returning to Norfolk, Brandon Segal picked up a pass from Alexandre Picard and buried a shot behind Binghamton's netminder Mike McKenna for his 14th goal of the season to narrow the Admirals deficit to 2-1 just 15 seconds into the middle frame.
Norfolk's comeback continued with a power play goal by Evan Oberg. After collecting a loose puck, Oberg skated past a pair of Senators defensemen and broke in all alone on McKenna From in between the faceoff circles, Oberg sent a shot top-shelf over the glove of McKenna for his fifth goal of the season to knot the game at 2-2 with 6:27 having expired in the third period.
In the final minute of regulation, Labrie's 13th goal of the season capped off the comeback. After a shot by Tyler Johnson was kicked aside by McKenna, the puck deflected into the left faceoff circle. From there, Labrie picked up the loose rebound and slipped the shot through the pads of the goaltender to give the Admirals the 3-2 lead at 19:30 of the third.
Dustin Tokarski (24-11-0) stopped 33 of 35 shots for the victory. Mike McKenna (13-16-0) allowed three goals on 39 shots in the defeat.
Norfolk was 1 for 3 on the power play. Binghamton was 1 for 4 with the man advantage.
