Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Mattias Tedenby netted the game-winning goal with just 1:26 remaining, leading the Albany Devils to a 3-1 victory against the Syracuse Crunch Friday at the Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.

With the win and a Worcester Sharks loss, the Devils move into an eighth-place tie in the Eastern Conference with a 25-20-5-3 record (58 pts.). The Crunch remain in 14th place with a 21-24-4-4 mark (50 pts.).

Albany fought back after trailing 1-0 with power-play goals by Eric Gelinas and Tedenby. Vladimir Zharkov provided an insurance, empty-net goal.

Between the pipes, Keith Kinkaid earned his 15th win by making 33 saves on 34 shots. He is now 6-2-0 in his last eight starts.

Kinkaid did get help from Brandon Burlon late in the third period with the score tied, 1-1. The Devils netminder wondered into the high slot, looking to move the puck forward. After a turnover, the Crunch had an opportunity at an open net, but Burlon made a save deep inside the crease.

The defensive effort was followed minutes later by Tedenby drawing a penalty with 2:28 remaining in regulation. On the power play, he looked off a defenseman near the right face-off circle, walked in and sniped a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Syracuse goaltender Iiro Tarkki. The goal came with assists from Steve Zalewski and Gelinas.

Gelinas started Albany's scoring at 15:29 of the second with a wrister from the point. Tedenby and Mike Sislo assisted on his team-leading sixth power-play goal.

Zharkov's empty netter came with 1:02 remaining.

The Devils return to action to face the seventh-place Manchester Monarchs Saturday at 7 p.m. Fans can follow the action on 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio or online at ahllive.com.
