Goaltenders Duel Goes Rampage Way

February 24, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria Rivermen forward Derek Nesbitt spoiled Dov Grumet-Morris' shutout bid with only 1:51 left in regulation, but the San Antonio Rampage held on for a 2-1 win on Friday night at Carver Arena. Ben Bishop stopped 29 of 31 on the other end, including some flashy stops to keep Peoria within reach for most of the game.

With the win, the Rampage pulled into a tie with Peoria for sixth place in the Western Conference at 61 points. The two teams will rematch on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Greg Rallo tallied the game's first goal at 15:28 in the first period. Just as Bishop went to cover a loose puck in the crease, Rallo chipped it over his shoulder for his 14th of the year.

The Rivermen made a strong push in the second period as they fired 21 shots on goal in a 20-minute stretch. They failed to capitalize on a 91-second five-on-three power play as they peppered Grumet-Morris.

A Scott Timmins goal at 17:51 in the third period was negated just 18 seconds later by Nesbitt's 20th of the season. Nesbitt walked in to the top of the right circle and fired a slap shot over Grumet-Morris' glove. The Rivermen pulled Bishop for the extra attacker in the final minutes but failed to tie the game.

The Rivermen host the Rampage again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Peoria will be wearing ECHL-era throwback jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game to benefit the Children's Hospital of Illinois. Tickets are available by calling 309-676-1040 or by visiting www.rivermen.net.
