New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- New Hampshire Fisher Cats starting pitcher Kyle Drabek (1-1, 2.81 ERA, 8 K, 16.0 IP) has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the span ending July 4, 2010. The 22-year old from Victoria, TX recorded 13 ground ball outs, 11 fly outs and three strikeouts on way to his first professional no-hitter Sunday night against the New Britain Rock Cats. Combined with his start on June 29 vs. the Reading Phillies, Drabek has held the opposition hitless in his last 13.1 innings.
Drabek, who was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays in December, 2009 via a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies that featured Roy Halladay, currently sits first in the Eastern League with 107.0 innings pitched on the season. The son of former Cy Young winner Doug Drabek, Kyle also ranks second among his EL counterparts in strikeouts with 80, fifth in opponent's batting average at .219 and seventh in ERA at 3.20. The 6'1", 190-pound right-hander was originally a first-round (18th overall) pick by the Phillies in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.
Drabek becomes the fifth Fisher Cat player to earn player of the week honors in 2010, following fellow pitcher Luis Perez (April 18), outfielders Darin Mastroianni (May 9) and Adam Calderone (May 16), as well as infielder Shawn Bowman (June 7).
The complete game, no-hitter marks the first of its kind in Merchantsauto.com Stadium, and in New Hampshire franchise history. Previously, Jamie Vermilyea threw a seven-inning perfect game over New Britain in the second contest of a doubleheader on June 28, 2004 at the Fisher Cats' previous park, Gill Stadium.
The Fisher Cats are traveling to Portland to start a four-game road series against the Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, on July 5 before making the trip to Binghamton for another four-game set against the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
Drabek is scheduled to make one more start before appearing at the 2010 Eastern League All-Star game in Harrisburg on July 14. He will be accompanied by teammates Mastroianni, Bowman, Eric Thames, Trystan Magnuson and catcher Brian Jeroloman, who called the no-hitter from behind the plate.
The Fisher Cats return to Manchester to open a four-game series against Binghamton on Thursday, July 15. An Atlas Fireworks Show follows the game. The Portland Sea Dogs will also be playing at Merchantsauto.com Stadium from July 19-21. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
