Akron RubberDucks News Release

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros are pleased to announce that they are teaming up with the Alliance for Consumer Education (ACE) in their effort to "Strike out Inhalant Abuse." In the offseason, the Aeros became the fourth minor league baseball team, all in the Eastern League, to join the coalition against inhalant abuse. In an event nearly a year in the making, the Aeros will have various informational segments and giveaways during their contest on Wednesday July 7th at Canal Park against the Trenton Thunder.

Akron staff members have been visiting local schools and handing out free ticket vouchers for the game since the beginning of the baseball season. Team mascot Orbit helped the Aeros hold assemblies and deliver nearly 5,000 informational packets to over a dozen middle schools and elementary schools ranging from Youngstown to Massillon to Akron and to Peninsula. The team will also be giving away free "Strike out Inhalant Abuse" posters featuring Akron third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall, the second-best prospect in the Cleveland Indians organization according to Baseball America.

A recent report by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America estimated that one out of five kids in the United States to abuse inhalants by the eighth grade. Do you know the symptoms of inhalant abuse, the ways in which inhalants are harmful to your children or the most commonly abused products? Do you know how to seek professional advice or how to find treatment solutions? If you are looking for the answers to these and many more questions, then join the Aeros for this special occasion on Wednesday, July 7th.

"The Aeros are proud to throw our support towards this important effort to prevent inhalant abuse among children," Jeff Auman, Aeros Vice President and General Manager, said during the offseason when the program was announced. "Because America's baseball parks are natural gathering places for families and children - they are uniquely useful settings for raising public awareness about a danger that many parents don't even know exists. To the extent that we can continue to raise awareness among Aeros fans of all ages, we are delighted to be part of the solution."

The "Strike out Inhalant Abuse" Program originated in a 2008 partnership between ACE and the New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League's Eastern Division. That agreement featured the first-ever Inhalant Abuse Awareness Game and the program has expanded to add the Bowie Baysox, the Trenton Thunder and now the Aeros. ACE's motto states that it is "a foundation dedicated to advancing community health and well-being."

After a weeklong road trip, the Aeros begin their quick four-game home stand Monday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Thunder. Fans can visit any local KeyBank branch to find FREE ticket vouchers for the game and it is another Dollar Dog Monday as fans can purchase $1 hot dogs Alex White (3-4, 1.72 ERA) will be on the starting mound for Akron against Trenton's Andrew Brackman (0-2, 4.50 ERA) in the series opener.
