The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending July 4th:

Akron Aeros first baseman/outfielder Matt McBride has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending July 4th. The 25-year old had an outstanding week for the Aeros, hitting .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles, six home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, four walks and a 1.111 slugging percentage over seven games. The 6'2", 215 lb. slugger put on quite a display of power last week, homering in three straight games from June 30th-July 2nd, including going 3-for-4 with three home runs and four RBI in a 5-0 win at Bowie on Thursday night. He also had at least one hit in each of the seven games he played in and scored at least one run in five of those games. McBride, who is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, led all Eastern League hitters in home runs (6), total bases (30), slugging percentage (1.111) and OPS (1.563) last week. He also ranked second in extra-base hits (8) and RBI (9) and tied for third in runs scored (7). Matt, who is batting .266 with 10 home runs, 41 RBI and 37 runs scored in 75 games for the Aeros this season, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the supplemental second round of the 2006 draft after hitting .417 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI during his junior season at Lehigh University.

Kyle Drabek, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 4th. The 6'1", 190 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Fisher Cats last week and posted a record of 1-1 with eight strikeouts and a 2.81 ERA. The 22-year old took a loss in his first stat of the week on Tuesday night against the visiting Reading Phillies, giving up five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters in seven innings. Drabek bounced back in a big way in his second appearance of the week, tossing just the second no-hitter in franchise history for the Fisher Cats in a 5-0 win against New Britain on Sunday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. He struck out three batters and walked two while improving his record to 8-8 on the season. The Victoria, Texas native is currently ranked second in the league in strikeouts (80), tied for second in wins (8) and is ranked seventh in ERA (3.20). Kyle, who is the son of former Cy Young winner Doug Drabek, was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies for Roy Halladay on December 16, 2009. He was originally selected by the Phillies as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 draft.
