Krebs' Hat-Trick Third Period Helps Drive Tigers 7-2 Win in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB - The Tigers got on the scoresheet after a successful offside challenge negated an opening goal from Rilen Kovacevic, and Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) would re-direct a Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) point shot at 6:27. Tyler MacKenzie's (Red Deer, AB) would win the draw to help orchestrate that first goal. It wouldn't take long for the Tigers to respond again just 1:23 later as Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) would follow up his own shot that lead to a goal mouth scramble and St. Martin would finally bang home his 7th of the year from Kurtis Smythe (Cloverdale, BC) & Shane Smith (Cessford, AB). After the second Tiger goal at 7:50, the Tigers would respond again 1:50 later at 9:40 as Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) would complete a give and go play with Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) and it was 3-0 Tigers in a span of 3:23.

The Oil Kings would respond late in the opening period as Ethan MacKenzie would make no mistake on an Edmonton power play to cut the Tiger lead to 3-1 at 15:12 from Gavin Hodnett & Mason Finley. Medicine Hat would take that two goal lead into the second out shooting the Oil Kings 13-9.

In the second period the Tigers penalty would be tested but would kill off 4 infractions in the period but would give up the only scored in the middle stanza was Cole Miller's 9th of the season beating Tigers starting goaltending Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) in the latter stages of the 2nd at 14:13 from Hodnett and Jacob Hoffrogge. The Tigers would hold their lead on the scoreboard and the shot clock as it was 21-18 Medicine Hat heading to the third.

In the third period the Tigers gave the Oil Kings nothing to work with despite having an early penalty kill but it would Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would bury a shorthanded snapshot at 2:54 to get the Tigers much needed insurance early on from MacKenzie. The Okotokian wouldn't be done in was a monumental 3rd period for the Washington Capitals draft pick. In the final five minutes the Tigers put things away for good as Krebs would get his second of the night at 15:04 from shot through traffic sneaking past Kolby Hay as Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would get his only point of the night setting things up. Cayden Lindstrom would respond shortly after notching his 18th of the year just 1:03 later from Lee & the returning Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, B.C.) for his first in 11 games and then Krebs would finish things off with his first career WHL hat-trick on a late Tiger power play with just 36 second left on the game clock, putting a bow on the Tigers 28th win of the season.

The Tigers would go 1/5 on the power play and 6/7 on the penalty kill which would include six consecutive kills in the game, while improving to two games above .500 at 28-26-8-1 keeping themselves in 7th seed in the Eastern Conference, just three points back of the Regina Pats for 6th heading into action Saturday night.

It's the start of a busy 3 in 3 weekend for Medicine Hat as the Tigers will return to Co-op Place Saturday and face the Calgary Hitmen in a home at home series. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets at tixx.ca or at the Co-op Place Box Office as the push for the playoffs continues and the 50/50 pot from last Saturday's game against Regina will be carried over with the pot starting at $53,355.
