The Story:
A valiant late comeback effort saw the Winterhawks (39-19-4-3) erase a two-goal deficit in the third, but two Kyle Crnkovic tallies in the final five minutes pushed the T-Birds (52-9-1-2) to a 4-2 win at the VMC on Saturday.
Down by a pair in the third, the Winterhawks came alive with a pair of goals in six minutes. Robbie Fromm-Delorme grabbed the first, deflecting a Ryder Thompson shot past Thomas Milic just 11 seconds into the frame. Jack O'Brien soon evened the score with a spinning shot from the slot after Carter Sotheran's chance bounced free.
Crnkovic found twine to restore the visitors' lead at 16:46, then potted an empty-netter to seal the win for Seattle.
After an evenly-matched first period ended without a goal, the Thunderbirds grabbed the game's first early in the second as Nico Myatovic converted on a breakaway. After Portland was stymied on a number of changes for the next stretch of play, Seattle's Dylan Guenther whacked home a loose puck during a scramble to double his team's lead at 14:10.
The Winterhawks are back in action for Fan Appreciation Night on Tuesday, March 21, against the Vancouver Giants.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:
"I thought we played a pretty good first and second but we really got going in the third there. Quick strike in the third period got the crowd going and then we followed it up afterwards...it was good to hear the crowd, it was a good night."
