Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George BC - The Prince George Cougars are excited to announce that forward Chase Wheatcroft (02) has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Dallas Stars.
"I am grateful and honoured for the opportunity with the Dallas Stars and to get going with such a first-class organization," said Wheatcroft.
Wheatcroft, 20, has put together one of the best regular seasons in Cougars history. In 65 games, Wheatcroft owns 47 goals and 57 assists, good for 104 points. He is just the second Cougar in history to eclipse the 100-point mark (Quinn. Hancock, 112 points in 1997-98). The Calgary, AB product also set a team record earlier this season for the most power-play goals in a season and leads the entire CHL in power-play goals (22).
"I want to thank my family, billet families, coaches, Universal Sports Management, my teammates, organization staff, and friends for all of their support and their help throughout my life," added Wheatcroft. "This is a dream come true."
GM & Head Coach Mark Lamb acquired Wheatcroft back in the off-season from the Winnipeg ICE in exchange for a 4th round selection. In 202 games in the WHL, Wheatcroft owns 78 goals, 108 assists and 186 points.
"What can you say... he's come in and proved he's one of the top players in the league," commented Lamb. "What a great story for him and our organization."
Wheatcroft is the third Cougar to sign an NHL deal this season (Jaxsen Wiebe, Anaheim and Ethan Samson, Philadelphia).
The Prince George Cougars would like to congratulate Chase Wheatcroft on this magnificent accomplishment.
Wheatcroft and the Cougars are back in action tonight on home ice against the Victoria Royals. You can purchase your tickets online at www.ticketsnorth.ca or visit the TicketsNorth box office located at the CN Centre. The Cougars have also clinched home ice for the opening round of the 2023 WHL Playoffs. Playoff tickets go on sale first thing on Tuesday morning.
