Pats Head to Moose Jaw for Rebound Performance
March 18, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats head to the Moose Jaw Events Centre for a Trans-Canada Highway Clash rematch against the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:00 p.m., Saturday.
The Regina Pats have another opportunity to clinch a playoff berth tonight as they play the Warriors for the final time this season. Regina would need to gather at least a point or receive a Swift Current Broncos regulation loss against the Red Deer Rebels in order to guarantee a ticket to the post-season.
It's a quick turnaround tonight for the Pats who take on the Warriors for the eighth time this season, as the Pats play the third of four games in five nights as well as the second game of three contests this weekend which wraps up tomorrow afternoon in Saskatoon.
The Pats are coming off a 9-5 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, as the club has now dropped five of their last six games, eying a bounce back performance tonight. The Pats opened the scoring in the first period but allowed six unanswered Warriors goals, with three of them coming in the opening stanza.
Connor Bedard tallied five points (3G-2A) along with his 10th career hat-trick while Alexander Suzdalev (1G-2A), Tanner Howe (2A) and Stanislav Svozil (2A) chipped in with multi-point games. Riley Ginnell scored for a second straight game and Zackary Shantz picked up his first career WHL point with an assist. The Pats went 1-4 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill.
The final shots were 40-26 for the Warriors. Jagger Firkus led the way for Moose Jaw with four points (3G-1A), while Brayden Yager (3A), Atley Calvert (1G-2A) and Ryder Korczak (1G-2A) finished with multi-point games. Jackson Unger helped the Warriors to their fourth straight win, making 21 saves.
