Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters notch their second shutout in the span of three games, winning 3-0, in front of 1,825 fans at Turtle Creek Stadium.
It was a tightly pitched contest between the Pit Spitters and the Jackrabbits as both squads exchanged zeros until the Pit Spitters struck in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jackrabbits starting pitcher Christian Keel threw five no-hit innings until he was pulled for the new pitcher, Aidan Berggren. Berggren started the bottom of the sixth inning with a quick flyout from Aaron Piasecki, for outnumber one. The Pit Spitters offense then started to heat up as Jt Sokolove reached first after getting hit by a pitch. Vahn Lackey tallied the first hit of the evening as an accidental swing rolled the ball slowly to third baseman Jack Dupuis who was unable to throw out Lackey in time. In his first game back with the Pit Spitters, Cole Prout hit a ball in front of the left fielder, Ray Rivera. During the play, Sokolove rounded third and scored with ease as the Jackrabbits defense hesitated to throw the ball giving the Pit Spitters a 1-0 lead. Brett Rozman was hit by a pitch during the next at-bat to load the bases once again. Lackey came into score following a wild pitch thrown by Berggren to extend the Pit Spitters lead 2-0. During Ethan Guerra's at-bat, Prout scored on a passed ball to give the Pit Spitters a 3-0 lead. The Pit Spitters went on to win the game by that score.
The Pit Spitters improve to 9-6 on the season, while the Jackrabbits drop to 2-12. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Dylan Krause threw eight innings of shutout baseball, striking out seven batters and only allowing one free pass, on four hits. Mitchell Grannan earned his third save of the season throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Pit Spitters will be back in Traverse City for game two of the home stand as they take on the Kokomo Jackrabbits. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. All league games are viewable live via the Northwoods League Website. League games are viewable live at watchnwl.com and on ESPN+.
