Komets Rail Reading 3-1, Gain 3-1 Series Lead

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets opened the scoring for the second straight game and for the second straight night finished with a win on Fort Wayne ice in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Reading Royals.

After a 5-1 victory over the visiting Royals Thursday, the Komets earned a 3-1 win Friday in front of 5,161 Fort Wayne fans at the Memorial Coliseum and took a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven ECHL series.

Komet captain Kaleigh Schrock (RW) was first to light the lamp with his first goal of the playoffs at 4:04 into the first period with a dish from defenseman Jace Coyle. Before the first period ended, Reading's Stanislav Galiev (F) scored the equalizer, a power play goal, at 16:12 from Ryan Cruthers (F).

Komet right wing Christian Ouellet scored the lone goal of the second frame. His first marker of the playoffs came at 5:18 of the second frame with assists from Sy Nutkevitch (C) and Matthew Maione (D).

The Komets began the third stanza up 2-1 and both teams battled until 16:57 before Mike Embach (LW) gave the Komets an insurance tally, assisted by Shawn Szydlowski. Szydlowski's helper extends his point-scoring streak to four games in the post season, with points in each game to date (2 goals, 2 assists).

Komet goaltender Ben Meisner earned first star of the game making 33 saves on 34 shots in his fourth straight start. Reading's Riley Gill suffered the loss allowing three goals on 30 shots.

Fort Wayne was 0/2 on the power play while Reading was 1/3 with the man advantage.

Game 5 will be held Sunday at 6pm in Fort Wayne. Game 6, if necessary will be skated at Reading Tuesday, April 29 at 7:05pm. If game 7 is needed, it will be held at Reading Wednesday, April 30, at 7:05pm.
