Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California - The Bakersfield Condors scored 6:34 into overtime after tying the game with one second left in regulation and defeated the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 Thursday night to take a three games to one lead in the first round series.
It marks the second-straight game that Utah has held a lead late in the third period and fallen in overtime. All four games in the series thus far have been decided by a goal.
After trailing 1-0 for 30 minutes and 16 seconds after Bakersfield took an early 1-0 lead, the Grizzlies scored two goals in 33 seconds at 18:21 of the second period and 18:54 of the frame to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Grizzlies drew a five-on-three power-play with 3:23 left in the second period and got seven shots before the eighth one four seconds after Bakersfield got their fourth skater back found the back of the net. Charles Sarault (2) finally buried the score from the circle with Jamie MacQueen and David Vallorani drawing assists after Bakersfield goaltender Laurent Brossoit stopped several sure goals as the Grizzlies worked hard to tie on the power-play.
33 seconds later, the Grizzlies third line chased the puck in deep. Brent Gwidt got it to Danick Paquette who spun a no look pass out in front for Phil Mangan for his first goal of the playoffs.
The lead held until Bakersfield was able to score with one second left in regulation as the Grizzlies were unable to hold on for the win.
Ducks prospect Igor Bobkov stopped 29 of 32 shots and 12 of 13 in the first period to keep Utah in the game early after the Condors outshot the Grizzlies 13-5 in the first period and took a 1-0 lead 8:05 into the game. The start was Bobkov's first after rejoining the Grizzlies from the AHL late Thursday night.
Utah outshot Bakersfield 16-4 in the second period and killed two penalties down 1-0 to give themselves a chance to rally for the lead.
