Wheeling, W.V. - Forward Jordan Owens and Jack Downing scored in the third period, but the South Carolina Stingarys (0-4) fell short to the Wheeling Nailers (4-0) 4-2 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at WesBanco Arena Friday evening. The Stingrays fall in the best-of-seven series 4-0, ending the 2013-14 season.

After a physical first period, the Nailers held a 1-0 lead off a goal from rookie Sahir Gill at 2:46 slipping a shot between the legs of Stingrays goaltender Allen York (L, 25 saves on 28 shots) from between the faceoff circles. The two teams combined for 22 penalty minutes including a scrap between Stingrays defenseman Brendan Ellis and Nailers blueliner Paul Ciafrini.

Forward Max MacKay gave the Nailers a two-goal advantage late in the middle stanza when a bouncing pass rolled off the backside of York at 16:20. The Stingrays forced 15 shots towards netminder Mike Condon (W, 33 saves on 35 shots), but could not cut the lead in half through two periods.

In the final frame, MacKay added his second goal of the season at 2:37 for a 3-0 lead before the Stingrays snapped the shutout streak of Condon at 5:30 off the stick of Owens. Forward Igor Gongalsky and defenseman Brendan Ellis added assists. Downing pulled the game within one with 59 seconds to play blasting a shot from center ice past the glove of Condon from defenseman Dylan King and Owens. The Nailers sealed the victory and the series with an empty-net tally at 19:54 from forward Denver Manderson. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play while the Nailers went 0-for-5.
