Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Greenville, SC - The Kalamazoo Wings responded from their game three overtime loss with a decisive 4-1 victory Friday night at the Bon Secours Arena. The win evened the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series at two games apiece.
Coming out flying in the opening period, the K-Wings became the first team in this series to light the lamp in the first period. Precision passing from Nick Sirota and Chris Lawrence led to a goal from Matt Caria (2nd) 11:26 into the stanza. The goal marked the first time this postseason that the K-Wings earned the first goal of the game.
Caria, who was the K-Wings leading scorer in the regular season, struck again three minutes later for his second goal of the night. Created by a stretch pass from Joe Sova, Caria (3rd) snuck behind the Road Warriors defense and scored on a breakaway.
Greenville cut Kalamazoo's lead in half midway through the second period, when Andrew Rowe laid a cross rink pass to Jordie Johnston (1st). Also assisting on the tally was Marc-Olivier Vallerand, who earned his team-leading fifth point of the postseason.
Ludwig Blomstrand (1st) gave the K-Wings breathing room 13:41 into the third period. Immediately following a face-off victory by Ryan Del Monte, Blomstrand wasted no time in firing a slap shot over the blocker of Jason Missianen.
The K-Wings added to their lead in the final two minutes with an empty-netter by Justin Taylor (1st).
Making 27 saves, Jordan Binnington (1-1) earned the first playoff victory of his professional career.
Kalamazoo and Greenville will continue their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup with game five of the best-of-seven series tomorrow, April 26th with a 7 p.m. encounter at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
