Utah Grizzlies News Release

Bakersfield, California - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-0 Friday night at Rabobank Arena to take the first round playoff series four games to one.

After leading in the third period in games three and four before falling in overtime, a continued series of bad bounces finally took an emotional toll on the Grizzlies in the elimination game. The first four games of the series were tied in the third period and decided by one goal before tonight's finale.

The Grizzlies came out strong in the first period as they killed two penalties and outshot the Condors 13-7 with six shots from Jamie MacQueen; but they were unable to get a goal and the game was scoreless after 20 minutes.

The Condors drew a power-play and scored the game's first goal 2:12 into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The goal ended a stretch of 20-straight kills by Utah shorthanded to start the series.

Bakersfield made it 2-0 1:59 later at 4:11 of the frame and then added another power-play goal with 5:52 left.

The Condors scored two in the third period, one on an empty-netter as the Grizzlies pulled Igor Bobkov for an extra-attacker for several minutes as they tried to get something going.
