
Komets Complete Week 18 with Two Shutouts

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, February 14, 2011 -- The Komets improved to 21-19-5 and 47 points after collecting six points in week 18 of 2010-11. For the first time this season the Komets have winning home (11-10-3) and road (10-9-2) records. Since Dec. 22 the Komets have skated at a .750 pace (16-4-4) earning 36 points in 24 games and rank 12th in the CHL with a winning percentage of .522. The Komets have moved to within eight points of third-place Quad City and trail the Turner Conference leader Rapid City by 15 points with five games in hand and 21 games remaining.
The Komets enter this week riding an eight-game road winning streak and are coming off two straight wins, both shutouts. The Fort Wayne defense was a perfect 19/19 on the penalty kill for the week, and allowed five goals on 90 shots (85/90) for a .944 team save percentage during the four-game period.

Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Fort Wayne Komets 7 Bloomington PrairieThunder 1
The Komets posted their 1400th home win since the franchise began in 1952. The Komets scored their first home win in four Bloomington visits and evened the series at 3-3-0. The 7-1 win was Fort Wayne's largest margin of victory in a game this season. Six Komets had multi-point nights including Sean O'Connor (2 goals), Kaleigh Schrock (2 assists), Colin Chaulk (2 goals), Tab Lardner (1 goal, 2 assists), Derek Patrosso (1 goal, 3 assists) and Frankie DeAngelis (1 goal, 1 assist). Lardner reached a CHL-high five-game goal scoring streak (6 goals) and Patrosso pushed his CHL-high assist scoring streak to 10 games (17 assists).
Friday, Feb. 11, Quad City Mallards 4 at Fort Wayne Komets 2
Komet streaks of six straight wins and three straight home wins were snapped. Goaltender Nick Boucher's winning streak was stopped at four games. Al Sims reached his 600th game as a Fort Wayne head coach.
Saturday, Feb. 12, Fort Wayne Komets 2 at Dayton Gems 0
Fort Wayne extended its road winning streak to eight games and is unbeaten in regulation in nine straight road games with the first shutout of the season. It's the Komets' fourth straight win over Dayton. Fort Wayne is 5-0-1 in the last six meetings. The Komets reached 20 wins after 44 games. 15 of the 20 wins have come in the last 23 games. Goalie Kevin Reiter extended his road winning streak to four games. Chaulk dished his 900th career point assisting on the first goal of the game. Chaulk also assisted on the second goal for a two-point night and extended his point streak to six games (2g, 8a). P.C. Drouin scored Fort Wayne's second goal for a five-game point streak (2g, 4a).
Sunday, Feb. 13, at Fort Wayne Komets 2 Evansville IceMen 0
The Komets responded to their 4-2 setback at Quad City Friday with their second of two straight wins, both shutouts. Reiter snagged his second straight shutout, 10th Fort Wayne career shutout, for a streak of 121:11 straight shutout minutes. The shutout was Reiter's fifth straight win. Chaulk skated his 800th career game.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, Fort Wayne Komets (21-18-5) at Bloomington PrairieThunder (25-16-3, 53 points) 8:05pm ET
The Komets will travel to Bloomington to face the PrairieThunder at 8:05pm ET. The K's won a 3-2 shootout the last visit to Bloomington Jan. 21. The Komets are an even 3-3-0 in the season series after taking a 7-1 win against Bloomington last Wednesday on Coliseum ice. The Thunder were 1-1-1 in their three games played last week. Wednesday's match will be Bloomington's fifth of five visits to Fort Wayne for the season.
Friday, Feb. 18, Dayton Gems (22-19-4, 48 points) at Fort Wayne Komets, 8pm ET
Sunday, Feb. 20, Dayton Gems at Fort Wayne Komets, 5pm ET
The Komets will host Dayton for both home games this week starting Friday with Dayton's fifth of seven visits. The Komets improved to a 5-4-1 series record against the Gems this year with a 2-0 win at Hara Arena last Saturday in the last meeting and have a chance to move ahead of the Gems in the Turner Conference, trailing by only one point heading into the week's action. The Gems start the week following two straight losses and will host Quad City Thursday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday. The Gems will be idle Saturday before returning to Fort Wayne Sunday for a 5pm faceoff.
Saturday, Feb. 19, Fort Wayne Komets at Quad City Mallards (27-20-1, 55 points), 8:05pm ET
The Komets will have a chance to capture their first win of the season at Quad City with their fourth and final visit Saturday. The Mallards are 5-2-1 in their last eight games after completing last week's games with a 5-3 win at Dayton Sunday. It will be the ninth of 10 meetings as the K's trail the series 2-4-2. Quad City will skate at Dayton Thursday and host Bloomington Friday before facing the Komets at the i wireless Center Saturday.
KOMETS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- GOALTENDER KEVIN REITER
Reiter's numbers ¬" For the week, Kevin Reiter stopped 69 of 70 shots for a 0.33 goals-against average and .986 save percentage appearing in three games (180:00) posting a 3-0-0 record. Reiter pitched two shutouts and improved to 8-8-1 while collecting two first stars of the game and one second star. Reiter moved up to rank third among CHL goaltenders with a 2.42 overall goals-against average.
