Knights Split Friday's Doubleheader with Tides

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Outfielder Víctor Reyes led the way for the Charlotte Knights as they split a doubleheader with the Norfolk Tides as he accumulated five RBI on the night. The Knights won game one 6-3 and dropped the doubleheader's nightcap at Truist Field, 8-4.

The Knights moved to 12-13 on the season, while the Tides moved to 17-7.

GAME ONE: KNIGHTS WIN 6-3

LHP Jesse Scholtens secured the game-one victory by throwing six innings en route to the win. Scholtens passed the baton to RHP Alex Colomé, who got the save striking out two batters and closing the game. LHP Drew Rom took his first loss of the season, taking the defeat in game one of the doubleheader.

Infielder Nate Mondou hit his second home run of the season to cut an early Tides lead in half to 2-1 in the second inning.

The big inning came for the Knights in the fifth, scoring four runs on an RBI groundout from infielder Tim Anderson and RBI singles from infielder Zach Remillard and Reyes to take a 5-3 lead.

Remillard added a late insurance run, knocking in outfielder Billy Hamilton on a groundout capitalizing on a leadoff triple from Hamilton.

GAME TWO: TIDES WIN 8-4

LHP Nate Fisher was straddled with the loss in the doubleheader's nightcap, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up seven runs while striking out five batters.

Outfielder Kyle Stowers hit his third home run of the day for the Tides to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Remillard came in to score in the bottom half of the first inning tying the game on an RBI single from infielder Yolbert Sánchez making it 1-1 early.

In the second inning, Reyes came through big time for the Knights, hitting a three-run RBI double, knocking in Remillard, Mondou and catcher Sebastian Rivero to go up 4-1.

The Tides chipped away in the fourth inning, scoring one run on an RBI single before exploding for five runs in the fifth on four RBI singles. In the sixth inning, a sacrifice fly saw Norfolk add an insurance run to lead Charlotte 8-4.

Kyle Dowdy took the victory for Norfolk, his fourth of the season.

The Knights will continue the six-game series on Saturday night at Truist Field against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). First pitch is set for 7:04 p.m. from the Queen City on Saturday. The game will also be broadcast live on My12 WMYT starting at 7:00 p.m. Former Knights pitcher Mike Wright will join Matt and Mike in the booth.
