Charlotte Knights News Release
(MEMPHIS, TN) - The Charlotte Knights dropped game two of the six-game series against the Memphis Redbirds by a score of 16-2 on Wednesday night from AutoZone Park in Memphis, TN. The loss stopped Charlotte's winning streak at four consecutive games. Despite the loss, the Knights have still won eight of the last 13 games.
The Redbirds scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning against Charlotte RHP Jason Bilous (0-2, 9.82), who was saddled with the loss. Bilous was charged with all six runs without getting an out in the first inning and the Redbirds never looked back after the big first inning.
Charlotte battled back and scored a run in each of the next two innings. First baseman Craig Dedelow and left fielder Adam Haseley drove home Charlotte's lone runs in the game. Dedelow put the Knights on the scoreboard with a sacrifice-fly RBI in the second inning and Haseley grounded into a forceout in the third inning, which scored center fielder Mark Payton. That was all the Knights would score in game two.
Offensively for the Knights, shortstop Yolbert Sánchez led the way with two hits. In all, the Knights combined for six hits on the night.
For Memphis, Conner Capel led the way with two hits, two runs scored and four RBIs. Juan Yepez also had a solid offensive day at the plate. He launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and finished the day with the home run, three runs scored and three RBIs.
RHP James Naile (4-3, 3.62) earned the win out of the Memphis bullpen after he allowed just one hit over two shutout innings.
The Knights will continue the six-game road series against the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) on Thursday night from Memphis, TN. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET from AutoZone Park. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
