Chasers' Bullpen Shines in Loss to RailRiders

PAPILLION, Neb. - In a game that saw every run scored via a home run, the Omaha Storm Chasers (55-63) dropped game two 4-3 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (63-55) on Wednesday from Werner Park. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre takes a 2-0 series lead, knotting the all-time series 7-7.

Catcher Freddy Fermin gave Omaha a 1-0 lead when he hit his third home run of the series in the second inning, extending his hit streak to nine games. Fermin is looking to become the fourth Storm Chaser to earn a 10-game hit streak this season.

In the bottom of the fourth, right fielder Brewer Hicklen hit his 23rd home run of the season, to give the Storm Chasers a 2-0 lead. Hicklen now has an on-base streak of 26 games, the sixth longest on-base streak in the Storm Chasers era for Omaha.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre came out in the top of the fifth in hit a three-run homer off the bat of Matt Pita to take the lead 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, shortstop Maikel Garcia hit his fifth Triple-A home run to knot the score back at 3-3.

Armando Alveraz hit the game's fifth home run, a solo shot in the seventh to give the RailRiders the 4-3 lead.

Right-hander Daniel Mengden (Loss, 6-5) pitched into seventh inning, allowing four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Omaha's bullpen kept Scranton/Wilkes-Barre off the scoreboard for the second game in a row. Right-hander Ándres Núñez went 2.0 innings, allowing just two hits with two strikeouts while right-hander Wyatt Mills threw a hitless ninth, his third scoreless outing to start his time with the Chasers with a hitless ninth

The Storm Chasers couldn't put a run on the board in the final three innings, dropping game two 4-3.

Omaha and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will face off on Thursday in game three-of-six. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. The Storm Chasers are scheduled to start right-hander Jackson Kowar (4-8, 5.50) while the RailRiders are set to send Mitch Spence to the mound.

Tomorrow's game is a Cancer Awareness Night, a Chasers Community Celebration presented by PayPal. It is also Dollar Beer Night presented by Dave & Busters, with select Budweiser and Pepsi products for just a buck.
