Charlotte Knights News Release
UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Charlotte Knights loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but fell just short to the Memphis Redbirds by a score of 9-6 from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte in game two of the six-game series on Wednesday night. Pinch-hitter Tyler Neslony struck out to end the game.
Charlotte's team leader Víctor Reyes continued his solid season and upped his stats once again. Reyes launched his 17th home run of the season and drove in two runs on the night. His solo home run came in the bottom of the third inning of Wednesday's game. For the season, Reyes leads the Knights in batting average (.300), home runs (17) and RBI (66). He went 2-for-4 on the evening.
Right fielder Adam Haseley followed up the solo home run from Reyes with a solo home run of his own. The blast was his fifth of the season. The Knights added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to three. First baseman Nate Mondou launched a two-run home run, his eighth of the season. In all, the Knights hit three home runs in Wednesday's game and tallied a game-high 14 hits.
RHP Mike Mayers (3-2, 7.16) started Wednesday's game for the Knights and was saddled with the loss in his debut. Mayers, who was acquired on July 13 in a trade with the Kansas City Royals, allowed four runs on five hits over three innings pitched.
Memphis RHP Michael McGreevy (6-1, 3.84) earned the win after he tossed five strong innings, allowing three runs. Richie Palacios and Luken Baker led the way for the Redbirds offensively on Wednesday. Palacios hit his sixth home run of the season and Baker hit his 23rd of the year.
Wednesday's loss dropped the Knights to 2-14 in the second half.
The Knights will continue the six-game homestand against the Memphis Redbirds (Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) on Thursday night in Uptown Charlotte. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com, MiLB.tv and the Bally Live app. First pitch is set for 7:04 p.m. from Truist Field on Thursday.
