Buffalo Bisons News Release
SYRACUSE, NY- Zach Thompson set the tone on the mound, and the Buffalo Bisons offense was able to push across the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Syracuse Mets 4-3 on Wednesday night at NBT Bank Stadium. The Herd has now won each of the first two games against Syracuse.
Cameron Eden swung at the first pitch of his at bat and also earned the first run of the game. Eden then reached first on a fielder's choice throw while Rafael Lantigua crossed home plate easily. Buffalo takes the lead early in the game as they now lead 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
With one out and the bases loaded in the top of the fourth inning, Ernie Clement earns the second run of the game as he hit an RBI groundout. Tanner Morris extended the Herd's lead to 2-0.
The Bisons tack on an insurance run an inning later as Lantigua hit the ball to deep left field. Orelvis Martinez, who was standing on second, ran home and furthered the Bisons lead 3-0.
The Syracuse Mets got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Mark Vientos grounded out to Bisons shortstop Clement. Tomas Nido, who broke up the no-hit bid, scored and puts the Mets within two runs bringing the score to 3-1.
Thompson pitched six innings for his longest start of the season. Thompson threw a no-hitter through five innings and only let up one earned run that occurred in the sixth inning.
Ronny Mauricio tied the game with a base hit to right field that scored a pair. The inning was aided by an error that allowed Mauricio to advance to second base on the RBI single. However, the base runner was left stranded in scoring position after Trent Thornton recorded the final out in the bottom of the eighth, keeping the game tied 3-3.
Morris secured the Bisons win with an RBI line drive to right in the top of the ninth inning. Otto Lopez made it home as Morris attempted do stretch his single into a double. He could not beat the throw by Abraham Almonte and was thrown out.
Tomorrow, the Bisons will face the Mets for the third game of their six-game series at 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium and look to extend their win streak to three games.
