
Knights Drop Wednesday's Game 8-7

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- First baseman Seby Zavala launched two home runs, but the Charlotte Knights lost to the Norfolk Tides by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday night in Uptown Charlotte at Truist Field. The teams combined for six home runs, with each team hitting three long balls on the evening.
Zavala had a big day at the plate for the Knights, but the team fell just short in game two of the series. He hit his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning and his seventh home run of the season in the eighth inning.
Overall, the Knights combined to record 14 hits on the night. Charlotte third baseman Jake Burger had a two-hit day, including his second home run of the season. He led the way with three RBIs. Left fielder Mark Payton went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
RHP Jimmy Lambert was activated off the Injured List before the game and got the start for the Knights. He tossed one inning of scoreless baseball, allowing just two baserunners on walks
Charlotte got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single from the second baseman Yolbert Sánchez, knocking in Payton to give the Knights a 1-0 lead over the Tides in the first inning.
Norfolk claimed their, first lead of the game with a two-run home run by DH Jacob Nottingham to give the Tides a 2-0 the lead in the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning first baseman Zavala cut into Norfolk's lead with his first home run of the night to tie the game 2-2.
The Tides reclaimed their lead in the sixth inning with a grand slam by Robert Neustrom, putting Norfolk up 6-2.
Burger cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run homer knocking in Sánchez to cut the lead down to 6-4.
Norfolk catcher Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to grow the Tides' lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Knights added two runs on an RBI single by Burger and an RBI groundout by catcher Carlos Perez to cut the score to 8-6.
The Knights made it a one-run game in the eighth inning, with Zavala's second home run of the game to cut the Tides' lead over Charlotte to 8-7.
The Knights will continue the six-game series against the Tides on Thursday at 7:04 p.m. from Truist Field.
