Kings Return Harrold To Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have activated defensemen Brent Sopel and Oleg Tverdovsky from the injured reserve list and have assigned defenseman Peter Harrold to the Monarchs, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Sopel, 29, has nine points (4-5=9) and four penalty minutes in 14 games with the Kings this season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Calgary missed 18 games with his injury (foot). Sopel has 162 points (38-124=162) and 203 penalty minutes in 384 career regular season NHL games with the Kings, New York Islanders and Vancouver. The Kings acquired Sopel and right wing Mark Parrish from the Islanders for left wing Jeff Tambellini, defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and a conditional third-round choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft on March 8, 2006. Vancouver originally selected Sopel in the sixth-round (144th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

Tverdovsky, 30, has three points and four penalty minutes in 12 games with the Kings this season. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound native of Donetsk, Ukraine, missed 12 games with his injury (groin). Tverdovsky has 316 points (77-239=316) and 285 penalty minutes in 699 career regular season NHL games with the Kings, Carolina, New Jersey, Anaheim and Phoenix/Winnipeg. The Kings acquired Tverdovsky and the rights to defenseman Jack Johnson from Carolina for center Eric Belanger and defenseman Tim Gleason on September 29, 2006. Anaheim originally selected Tverdovsky in the first-round (2nd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Harrold, 23, who made his NHL debut and recorded his first NHL point (an assist) with the Kings at San Jose on November 22, has two points (0-2=2) and eight penalty minutes in 10 games with the Kings this season. In addition, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Kirtland Hills, Ohio, has 13 points (2-11=13) and 10 penalty minutes in 17 games with the Monarchs this season. The Kings signed Harrold as an unrestricted free agent on April 12, 2006.
