Hershey Bears To Be First AHL Team To Reach 5,000th Game

(HERSHEY, PA) - On Saturday, December 23rd, the Philadelphia Phantoms will play the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center, and history will be made as the Hershey Bears, the longest standing continuously operated team in the American Hockey League, become the first team to play their 5,000th game. For the Hershey Bears it is a doubly sweet event, reaching that milestone in a year when they are also the league champions.

The Hershey Bears plan to commemorate the event with special prizes for fans that attend the game, which will be presented by Capital BlueCross. According to Anita Smith, President and CEO of Capital BlueCross, "This is a terrific moment in history for the Hershey Bears and for our community, and it's healthy fun for the whole family!"

All fans in attendance will receive a limited edition, commemorative 5,000th game bronze coin and 10 lucky fans that night will win $500 each, courtesy of Community Banks. Courtesy of East Coast Scooters in Myerstown, there will be an ATV and a Scooter on hand to win - each with 6-months parts warranty. Finally, the 5,000th fan to come through Giant Center doors will win a special 5,000 game surprise.
